Dear all,
The machine learning and artificial intelligence lab at the University of
Southern California (USC), led by Fei Sha (http://www-bcf.usc.edu/~feisha)
has multiple open positions for postdoctoral researchers. We seek
applicants from all areas of machine learning and artificial intelligence
(with a focus on computer vision, natural language processing and other
emerging applications). The candidates must hold a PhD in computer science,
statistics or a closely related discipline, and have a strong publication
record in the very top conferences and journals in the areas of machine
learning and artificial intelligence. The expected start date is July, but
is also flexible.
The postdoctoral researcher is to interact and collaborate closely with
both the faculty member and graduate students in the lab, which consists of
about 10+ students (PhD, M.Sc. and undergraduates) and postdocs. While the
lab has a rich set of ongoing research projects, the postdoctoral
researchers are also encouraged to be independent and develop his/her own
research agenda that complements existing research endeavors. The quality
of the research is the ultimate criterion.
The lab is an integral part to the Computer Science Department at USC.
The CS department is rapidly growing with core strengths in machine
learning and artificial intelligence. For a list of faculty members and
their research interests, please see https://www.cs.usc.edu/ . USC has also
established a machine learning center: http://mascle.usc.edu/ , engaging
many faculty members and students broadly from other departments including
mathematics, statistics, electrical engineering, industrial system and
engineering.
The campus is located in the center of Los Angeles, with convenient access
to beaches / mountains / national parks and a fantastic assortment of
cultural diversity and activities throughout the metropolitan LA area. USC
is also in close proximity to many other renowned academic institutions
such as Caltech and several UC campuses (UCLA, UCI, UCSD, UCR are within
driving distances). The Southern California Machine Learning Symposium (
http://dolcit.cms.caltech.edu/scmls/) has been held twice (Fall and Spring
2016) and the next one will occur at USC in Fall 2017.
Interested candidates should email Fei Sha (feisha at usc.edu) with their
CVs, one-page research statements and a list of reference letter writers.
