The Network Dynamics and Simulation Science Laboratory (NDSSL) invites
applications for postdoctoral associates in the fields of high performance
computing, data analytics and statistics. NDSSL is part of the
Biocomplexity Institute of Virginia Tech, and is a world-class group of
interdisciplinary researchers who develop synthetic information systems and
associated analytical methods for studying large-scale complex
socio-technical systems. The emphasis is real-time team science with direct
implications to policy-making, while also contributing to the scientific
literature in a significant way. Please see
https://www.bi.vt.edu/ndssl/research for more details on some of NDSSL’s
research projects.
A successful postdoctoral applicant will:
- Possess a strong academic record during their PhD with publications
in high impact journals/conferences.
- Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Be a strongly motivated, enthusiastic and self-driven individual
who excels in a highly collaborative environment.
Aptitude for creative problem solving would be encouraged.
During their stay in the group the postdoctoral scholars will be expected
to work on both theoretical and applied aspects of real-world problems
arising in a number of areas, including public health, social science and
systems biology. They are expected to publish high quality research in high
impact venues, and will have opportunity to collaborate in highly
multi-disciplinary teams.
We welcome applications in the following areas.
High Performance Computing: this includes areas related to the design and
implementation of network algorithms and agent-based simulations for
biological and socio-technical systems in current as well as emerging
models of high performance computing.
Data and Network Analytics and Statistics: this includes the areas of very
large-scale data mining and analysis, statistics, social network analysis,
database theory, streaming algorithms, machine learning, visualization, as
well as working with Big Data tools such as Hadoop and Spark.
Applications will be considered immediately until position(s) are filled.
Please send your CV and a research statement to Abhijin Adiga (
