We are looking for a talented and motivated student to join an exciting project probing the functional properties of mammalian neural circuits. The successful candidate will use a range of techniques -- including two-photon microscopy, two-photon optogenetics, electrophysiology, and behavioural paradigms in virtual reality -- in order to investigate computation in neural circuits during behaviour.

The PhD project will be carried out in the Neural Computation group at UCL (http://www.dendrites.org/), an interdisciplinary research group providing a thriving scientific environment, and offering the prospect of collaborations with scientists in computational neuroscience, engineering, computer science and other fields. UCL is based in central London, with the highest concentration of neuroscience research in the world.

The ideal candidate will have a background in systems, computational or cellular neuroscience with significant lab experience. Good programming skills (e.g. Matlab, Python, C++) would be an asset.

The start date is flexible and the position is fully funded for 4 years. A highly competitive stipend will be provided.

To apply, please send a CV, short statement of motivation and research interests, and the names of three referees to Dr. Michael Hausser (m.hausser at ucl.ac.uk<mailto:m.hausser at ucl.ac.uk>). The closing date is 31 January 2017.
