Plymouth University (UK) will hire 3 ESRs (PhD) positions for the following PhD projects within the APRIL European Industrial Doctorate:

  * ESR1 PhD Project: Emotional Bootstrap for Empathic Communication (Supervisor Torbjorn Dahl)
  * ESR2 PhD Project: Social Learning through Contingent Interaction (Supervisor Tony Belpaeme)
  * ESR3 PhD Project: Grounded Communication for Planning What to Say and What to Do (Supervisor Angelo Cangelosi)

The H2020 APRIL project aims at the establishment of the first European Industrial Doctorate in “Applications of Personal Robotics for Interaction and Learning” (APRIL) to train the next generation of researchers and engineers for the emerging field of personal robotics. APRIL is the result of the internationally leading, strategic synergies of Plymouth University’s Centre for Robotics and Neural Systems (CRNS) and AI-Lab of Aldebaran Robotics. Five ESR students will be employed in APRIL, three at Plymouth University and two at Aldebaran Paris. The balanced experience of each ESR student in terms of both the academic and the industrial experience (18 months stay at Plymouth University + 18 months at Aldebaran Paris) and additional short secondments and specialised complementary training in six associate partners sites, will entrench their entrepreneurship ethos for cross-sectorial careers as future robotics research and engineering leaders in academia and industry.

You should have a very good first degree in a computer science, or robotics, or cognitive science discipline. Applicants with a relevant Masters degree would be particularly welcome. Excellent programming skills are an essential requirement to apply. The stipend is for 3 years and you will receive an annual salary starting from £29000 to £32500 per annum. This is based on the ITN monthly living allowance, and the mobility and the family allowances.

Two additional ESR positions are being advertised by Aldebaran Robotics, Paris.

Full details on this vacancy and how to apply can be found on Plymouth University website (www.plymouth.ac.uk/jobs<http://www.plymouth.ac.uk/jobs>).

Applicants should upload a CV, along with their application and provide 2 referees within their application.

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a fixed-term basis for 36 months starting 1 April 2016.

The closing date for applications is 12 midnight, Wednesday 16 December 2015
