Dear colleagues, thank you for posting this announcement. Best, Viktor
Postdoctoral position in modeling and EEG data analyses of the aging Virtual Brain at Aix Marseille University (Laboratory V. Jirsa), France
Title: Brain Dynamics in Older Adults
Keywords: The Virtual Brain, nonlinear dynamics, brain connectivity, EEG/MEG, resting state, modeling
Context:
We seek two postdoctoral candidates who will join the Institut de Neurosciences des Systèmes (INS) on the medical campus of La Timone in the South of Marseille. Both postdocs will work at the interface of brain modeling and EEG data analyses (with complementary emphases though) in the context of the Coord-Age project, which is a collaborative project on neuro-behavioral aging. The project consortium is composed of the Theoretical Neuroscience Group (V. Jirsa), the Behavior Group (J.J. Temprado), as well as other experts in biomechanics and motor control at the Institute of Movement Sciences. The postdocs will work under supervision of Viktor Jirsa and JJ Temprado, together with other members of the team (PhD students and postdocs in brain and behavior, and neuromuscular synergies).
The successful candidates will study the dynamic mechanisms underlying the emergence of brain function from brain network dynamics in older adults. The objective of this research is to understand the effects of the couplings (connectivity, time delays) for the brain network dynamics during aging. The first aim is to build a large-scale brain network model using The Virtual Brain neuroinformatics platform (http://www.thevirtualbrain.org). The second aim is to analyze EEG data of young and older adults and validate the virtual brain model against empirical data. The approach is multidisciplinary, traverses multiple scales of organization and exploits experimental, theoretical and clinical techniques towards the understanding of brain dynamics. The results of the work will aid in the development of a larger conceptual framework on ageing and frailty, integrating other contributions from brain imaging and modeling.
Profile:
• PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or Neurosciences
• Expertise in nonlinear dynamics and neural modeling is helpful
• Programming skills for data analysis and modeling (Python, Matlab, Labview, Brain Vision, etc) are helpful
• Fluency in spoken and written English is obligatory
Contract:
• 12 months renewable based on performance, starting as of January 2014
• Salary: ~1900 Euros/month depending on experience
• Location: Campus of La Timone, Institut de Neuroscience des Systèmes, Aix-Marseille University, France.
