Connectionists: Postdoctoral position in computational cognitive science (University of Adelaide)

The computational cognitive science group at the University of Adelaide
(Australia) is seeking a post-doctoral researcher to contribute to a
project focused on problems of inductive inference. Project PIs are Dan
Navarro and Amy Perfors.

The research project investigates how different assumptions about the
nature and origin of data lead to different inferences, both in a normative
sense and in human behaviour. From a modelling perspective the project is
interested in developing Bayesian models of human induction,  and in
understanding how these relate to more traditional psychological models.


*Position Requirements*

*You should have:*

   - PhD in cognitive science, psychology, computer science, statistics, or
   other related discipline
   - Experience in implementing and interpreting probabilistic models (in
   particular, Bayesian modelling, MCMC techniques).


*Additional desirable characteristics:*

   - Previous experience developing new cognitive models
   - Matlab or R skills (although other programming languages are also
   acceptable)
   - Experience in psychological experimental design and data analysis



*Term of Position*

This position is available from 1 July 2012 (although the starting date is
flexible) for an initial period of 1 year with a further renewable period
of 1 year.


*Salary*

Salary: $70,814 - $76,014 per annum.  The successful applicant will be
appointed at an appropriate level within this range depending on
qualifications and relevant experience. An employer superannuation
contribution of 9% also applies.
