a sound scientific, social, legal and economic basis for improved policy
for the management, sustainable use and protection of the marine and
coastal environment. Due to a recent Framework Six project award it has
become necessary to recruit a research fellow to develop the innovative
models necessary for predictive scenarios on the state of Europe's seas.
The overall project involves the cooperation of 28 research groups in
14 countries and modelling will examine causal relationships between
agents of social and economic change and impacts to the environment. It
will develop predictive scenarios of future changes to the marine
environment. The new post, available with immediate effect for a maximum
duration of 30 months will assist the project leader, Prof. Laurence
Mee. The work is expected to lead to high quality research publications
and should provide an important career step for a young researcher.

The successful candidate must be an experienced and adaptable
postdoctoral statistician skilled in empirical data analysis and
modelling techniques. Approaches that may be explored include
multi-criteria analysis, Bayesian networks and neural networks. He/she
will have a proven track record of quality research publications and
should demonstrate capability for a multidisciplinary approach involving
teamwork. The appointee should be able to work autonomously, have good
