Machine Learning Group, Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Medicine
*********************************************************************
The Université catholique de Louvain seeks a qualified candidate for a
research position in machine learning and signal processing in biomedical
applications. The position is open for a candidate to the PhD degree.
The goal of the project, funded by local public funds, is to develop
prediction systems for epilectic seizures, based on neural recordings.
Machine learning and signal processing techniques will be used on recorded
signals to extract patterns that are relevant in a prediction strategy.
The project will be carried out in two groups: the Machine Learning Group
(http://www.ucl.ac.be/mlg/) and the neural Rehabilitation laboratory
(http://www.md.ucl.ac.be/gren/), under the supervision of Prof. Michel
Verleysen and Dr. Jean Delbeke respectively.
The ideal candidate will hold a degree in computer science, statistics,
signal processing or related fields. She or he should have strong background
in statistics, linear algebra, and signal processing. Knowledge in
statistical machine learning is an asset. She or he should have a sufficient
knowledge in Matlab and C or C++ programming. A strong interest for
biomedical applications is required, nut no prior knowledge is necessary.
Direct involvement in physiological experimentation is expected.
The candidate is expected to share his/her activities between the two
groups, situated respectively in Louvain-la-Neuve and Brussels (about 20 km
one from each other).
Appointment for this PhD position is for a maximum of 3 years, provided
successful progress, and should lead to a dissertation. Annual gross salary
is around 30,000 euros. Starting date is immediate.
Applications, including motivation letter and detailed curriculum, should be
sent to: Michel Verleysen, Université catholique de Louvain, DICE-Machine
Learning group, 3 place du Levant, B-1348 Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium.
E-mail: verleysen at dice.ucl.ac.be. Applications should be sent as soon as
possible, and in no case received later than November 30, 2005.
