MIPS Postdoctoral Position

          Postdoctoral Position at MIPS

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship to
develop new methods for automatic classification of protein
sequences using machine learning methods.

The input data will include BLAST/FASTA similarity scores,
protein domains and motifs, as well as secondary and tertiary structures
predicted by standard bioinformatics methods.  The primary classification
target will be functional categories (FunCat) developed by the MIPS.

Applicants with a Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computer science/engineering
are encouraged to apply. A background in molecular biology as well as
demonstrated computer skills (programming in Perl, SQL, C/C++ familiarity
with UNIX, Web) are preferred.

The position will be supervised by Prof. H.W. Mewes and Dr. I.V. Tetko.

The salary will be according to BAT IIa. The appointment will be for two years.
