POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP LINKING COMPUTATIONAL MODELS
AND SINGLE-CELL NEUROPHYSIOLOGY

Members of the Psychology Department and the Center for Integrative
and Cognitive Neuroscience at Vanderbilt University seek a highly
qualified postdoctoral fellow to join an NSF-funded collaborative
research project linking computational models of human cognition with
single-cell neurophysiology. The aim is to elucidate how control over
attention, categorization, and response selection are instantiated in
neural processes underlying adaptive behavior. The project integrates
separate programs of research in computational models of human
cognition (Logan and Palmeri) and in single-cell neurophysiology
(Schall).

We are particularly interested in applicants with training in
computational modeling (experience in mathematical modeling, neural
network modeling, or dynamic systems modeling are equally
desirable). Knowledge of theoretical and empirical research in
attention, categorization, response selection, or related areas of
cognition would be preferable, but is not necessary.

The fellowship will pay according to the standard NIH scale, and will
be for one or two years beginning July 1, 2003 or later. Fellows will
be expected to apply for individual funding within the first year.

Applicants should send a current vita, relevant reprints and
preprints, a personal letter describing their research interests,
background, goals, and career plans, and reference letters from two
individuals.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received. The fellowship can
begin any time within the next six months. Individuals who have
recently completed their dissertation or who expect to defend their
dissertation this summer are encouraged to apply. We will also
consider individuals currently in postdoctoral positions.
