Dear Colleagues,

"Postdoctoral Position in Neural Network Models of Language"

Qualified individuals are invited to apply for a postdoctoral fellowship in
connectionist modeling of language processing. The fellowship is
supported by the National Science Foundation (USA), and provides an
annual stipend of around $38,000-$41,000 for a maximum of 3 years. A
qualified candidate should hold a Ph.D. degree in an area of cognitive
sciences (computer science, psychology, or linguistics) and have
experience in neural networks and natural language processing.
Technical experiences with C/C++ and the Unix/Linux operating systems
are necessary. Familiarity with MatLab is desirable.

The successful candidate will join the PI's research team to work on self-
organizing models of language, with particular reference to the
acquisition, processing, and disorders of the mental lexicon (see the NSF
homepage for a summary of the project: https://www.fastlane.nsf.gov/
servlet/showaward?award=0131829. The project will be carried out at the
Cognitive Science Laboratory (http://cogsci.richmond.edu/lab.html) in the
Department of Psychology at the University of Richmond, where the
cognitive area includes faculty in neuroscience, memory and aging,
spatial cognition, and psycholinguistics. UR is a highly selective, private
university located six miles west of Richmond on a beautiful 350-acre
campus (1 hour west of Williamsburg and east of Shanondoah National
Park, and 2 hours south of Washington DC). It has been consistently
rated as one of America's best universities by US News and World
Report. With its over $1-billion endowment and progressive program
enhancements, UR provides a congenial research environment.

The target date for the start of the position is May 1, 2003. Consideration
of applications will begin as soon as possible. Applicants should send a
curriculum vitae, a cover letter, and two letters of recommendation via
email to pli at richmond.edu. The University of Richmond is an Equal
Opportunity Employer. Women and minority candidates are especially
encouraged to apply.
