"Postdoctoral Position in Neural Network Models of Language"
Qualified individuals are invited to apply for a postdoctoral fellowship in
connectionist modeling of language processing. The fellowship is
supported by the National Science Foundation (USA), and provides an
annual stipend of around $38,000-$41,000 for a maximum of 3 years. A
qualified candidate should hold a Ph.D. degree in an area of cognitive
sciences (computer science, psychology, or linguistics) and have
experience in neural networks and natural language processing.
Technical experiences with C/C++ and the Unix/Linux operating systems
are necessary. Familiarity with MatLab is desirable.
The successful candidate will join the PI's research team to work on self-
organizing models of language, with particular reference to the
acquisition, processing, and disorders of the mental lexicon (see the NSF

servlet/showaward?award=0131829. The project will be carried out at the
Cognitive Science Laboratory (http://cogsci.richmond.edu/lab.html) in the
Department of Psychology at the University of Richmond, where the
cognitive area includes faculty in neuroscience, memory and aging,
spatial cognition, and psycholinguistics. UR is a highly selective, private
university located six miles west of Richmond on a beautiful 350-acre
campus (1 hour west of Williamsburg and east of Shanondoah National
Park, and 2 hours south of Washington DC). It has been consistently
rated as one of America's best universities by US News and World
Report. With its over $1-billion endowment and progressive program
enhancements, UR provides a congenial research environment.
The target date for the start of the position is May 1, 2003. Consideration
