           Call for Papers: Invited Session on
“Neural Networks for Vision --- Biological and Artificial”
                  KES'2003, Oxford, UK
============================================================

7th International Conference on
Knowledge-Based Intelligent Information & Engineering Systems
3, 4 & 5 September 2003, St Anne's College, University of Oxford, U.K.

------------------------------------------
Invited Session on
“Neural Networks for Vision --- Biological and Artificial”

Modeling neural networks is important for both understanding the
biological brain and obtaining design principles for artificial vision
systems of the next generation. This session aims to focus on
(1) modeling approach to uncover the mechanism of the biological visual
system, and (2) artificial neural networks suggested by the biological
visual system.

Specific topics of interest include but not limited to:
   * Biological neural network models for the visual system
   * Artificial neural networks for vision
   * Visual pattern recognition using neural networks
   * Object recognition
   * Active vision
   * Selective visual attention
   * Learning and self-organization of neural networks for vision
   * Stereoscopic vision, binocular vision
   * Eye movement and foveation
   * Early vision
   * Motion analysis with neural networks
   * Target detection and tracking
   * Color vision
   * Segmentation of images or patterns using neural networks
   * Completion of imperfect patterns
      (e.g., partly occluded, or contaminated with noise)
   * Visual illusion

Instructions for Authors

Only electronic copies of the papers in Microsoft Word, PDF or
Postscript forms are acceptable for review purposes and must be sent to
the session chair. However, please note that you will be required to
send hard copy of the final version of your paper, if it is accepted;
electronic submission of final papers is not allowed.

Papers must correspond to the requirements detailed in the Instructions
to Authors which is placed on the Conference Web Site,
www.bton.ac.uk/kes/kes2003/, or http://www.hotwolf.f9.co.uk/kes/kes2003/

All papers must be presented by one of the authors, who must pay fees.

------------------------------------------
Publication

The Conference Proceedings will be published by a major publisher,
for example IOS Press of Amsterdam.
Extended versions of selected papers will be considered for publication
in the International Journal of Knowledge-Based Intelligent Engineering
Systems,
www.bton.ac.uk/kes/journal/

------------------------------------------
Important Dates

  Deadline for submission intention: December 1, 2002
  Deadline for receipt of papers by Session Chair: February 1, 2003
  Notification of acceptance: March 1, 2003
  Camera-ready papers to session chair by: April 1, 2003

  (Session Chair must send final camera-ready papers to reach to KES
   Secretariat by 1 May 2003 or they will not appear in the proceedings).
