I teach a graduate level course in the Statistics
Department on Statistical Modeling
based on solving optimization problems in a
Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Space (now called `kernel methods').
It attracts occasional graduate students from
CS and Engineering. I use my book `Spline Models
for Observational Data' (1990). This fall I will
probably include parts of Smola and Schoelkopf's new
book on SVM's, Hastie, Tibshirani and Friedman
on Statistical Learning, and Chong Gu's new
book on Smoothing Spline ANOVA.
