Within a joint Israeli-German research collaboration , positions for
3 PhD Students (Bat IIa/2 or equivalent)
are available immediately. The interdisciplinary project "METACOMP -
Adaptive Control of Motor Prostheses" aims at advancing techniques for
the development of neural prostheses. It combines the efforts of two
theoretical (Prof. A. Aertsen, Freiburg, and Prof. K. Pawelzik, Bremen)
and two experimental groups (Dr. S. Cardoso de Oliveira, Dortmund and
Prof. E. Vaadia, Jerusalem). One of the students will work on developing
adaptive models that can learn to control movements on the basis of
experimental data (Bremen). The second student will test the adaptive
models in psychophysical experiments in a virtual reality environment
(Dortmund). The student in Israel will test the model and decoding
mechanisms on brain activity recorded from awake primates. Applicants
should have a background in computational neuroscience or related
disciplines and will need good knowledge in computer programming.
