------------- Job Announcement ----------------------------------

RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Centre for Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience (CCCN)
ECOVISION Project
17,626 - 21,503

You will be associated with the group of Prof. Wrgtter
(http://www.cn.stir.ac.uk/) and involved in computer vision studies
of the real-world scene analysis problems in the context of the
ECOVISION project (Early cognitive Vision,
(http://www.pspc.dibe.unige.it/ecovision/).
The goal of these studies is to design a machine vision system of
superior performance. To this end principles of distributed cognitive
reasoning, which are now better understood in the brain, shall be
implemented in software and tested with artificial and real visual
scenes.

You shall develop this software in cooperation with other members
of the group. Good software knowledge of C++ is required. It would also
be helpful if you have a background in computer- and camera-equipment
hardware. This project is funded by the European Commission and takes
place in an international cooperation between seven partners from five
different countries. It also offers good access to industrially relevant
machine vision problems through the direct involvement of HELLA Hueck KG,
who is a big German company developing driver assistant systems,
which are the core application for the results of the ECOVISION project.

This appointment will be on a fixed term basis for 22 months in the first
instance, with an extension thereafter. The position is thought to be
basis for a PhD. Informal enquiries may be made to Dr. Norbert Krger
(tel: 01786 466379, email: norbert at cn.stir.ac.uk) or Professor
Florentin Wrgtter (tel. 01786 466369, email worgott at cn.stir.ac.uk.).

Application forms are available from the Personnel Office, University
of Stirling, Stirling FK9 4LA, telephone 01786 467028, fax 01786
466155 or email personnel at stir.ac.uk quoting ref no: 1874/1207 or
http://www.personnel.stir.ac.uk/recruitment/opportunities_research.html.

Closing date for applications: Monday, 16 September 2002.
