Post and pre-doctoral Positions, and Technical Assistant Positions
in Experimental and Computational Psychology

Perceptual Dynamics Laboratory
RIKEN BSI

Several pre and postdoctoral research positions, and technical
assistant positions are available immediately in the newly established
Perceptual Dynamics Laboratory (head: Cees van Leeuwen) at the RIKEN
Brain Science Institute, Japan. The RIKEN BSI is the primary
government-funded basic research institute in Japan. The working
language is English.

The researchers will be working on interdisciplinary projects relating
to perceptual integration and the perception of visual objects and
scenes. Focus of the laboratory is the application of complex
(i.e. nonlinear, nonstationary) dynamical systems to visual
perception. We are looking for candidates who are interested in
computational and experimental approaches. Candidates should have a
strong background in one or more of the following: computational or
mathematical modeling of neural information processes, cognitive
neuroscience, cognitive psychology, psychophysiology, psychophyics, or
related disciplines.

Technical assistant positions include: a software engineer to further
develop an interactive research environment for the numerical
simulation of complex dynamical systems. The preferred computer
languages are Matlab and C++. We will also consider those who are
interested in developing applications for running and analyzing
experiments, including multi-channel EEG and eye-movement
recording. Candidates should have an M.Sc. or equivalent. Those
interested to qualify for a higher degree will be considered.

The laboratory offers excellent research facilities for conducting
computer simulations and experiments, travel support for conferences,
an attractive international academic environment, and is located
within the Tokyo metropolitan area. Housing facilities are available
for an initial period. Competitive salaries are offered. The initial
appointment will be for one year, and will be renewable on an annual
basis. Recruitment continues until the applications are
filled. Applicants should send curriculum vitae, statement of research
interests, two letters of reference, and representative publications
to:
