The Parallelism and Artificial Intelligence (PAI) group is a dynamic team
involved in hot research topics related to new information and communication
technologies. His interests encompass namely the methodologies of Autonomous
and Adaptive Systems, Collective Intelligence, Evolutionary Computing, Agent
Technology, and Web operating Systems, but also the field of Human
Computer Interaction, where it addresses specifically the Immersive trend and
Pervasive Computing, namely with Force-Feedback Interaction and Sound imaging.

Post-Doctoral Research Position

The position

The position is intended for an enthusiastic postgraduate, who have terminated
her/his studies for a doctorate. The candidate will participate in the research
activities that are conducted within the WELCOME project (gzip'd postcript
description of the project available at
http://www-iiuf.unifr.ch/pai/index.html/Welcome.ps.gz).
Her/his duties will consist in (i) developing Agent-based
methodologies for Internet-based infrastructures, or (ii) tackling Human
Computer Interaction issues, together with supervision of two Ph.D research
works. As far as possible she/he will promote industrial applications of
her/his research, and build contacts with external academic or commercial
organizations. An open-mind to interdisciplinary approaches and to non-standard
innovation
techniques will be appreciated.
The position is to be taken in early spring 2000 (or at convenience). It is
granted for two years by the Swiss National Foundation for Scientific Research
(with a possibility of renewal once). Job location is Fribourg, a french-german
bilingual middle-size city in Switzerland.


The requirements

  Education: Ph.D in Computer Science
  Ability to speak, read and write French or German or English
  Proficient at one or several topics, such as:

       Intelligent Networks, Distributed Systems and/or Coordination Languages,
        Agent Technology
       Human Computer Interaction, Immersive and Pervasive Computing,
       Force-feedback interaction, Augmented or virtual
       reality, Sound Imaging
       Evolutionary Computing, Artificial Life
       Object-Oriented design techniques, Java programming, Jini technology
