The School of Psychology has gained an EU Fifth Framework Human Potential
Initiative award and invites applications for two positions to be held
jointly in the School and the Centre for Brain and Cognitive Development to
work on a project entitled "The Basic Mechanisms of Learning in Natural and
Artificial Systems".

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (Two-Year Fixed Term)
The postholder will mainly use connectionist/neural network techniques to
model memory dissociations in infancy and help implement and design models
of explicit and implicit memory in infancy in collaboration with Dr. D.
Mareschal.
Applicants should have a PhD, preferably in cognitive psychology,
developmental psychology, AI, or Neural Computation.
The post is tenable from 1st July, 2000 or a date to be arranged thereafter.

Salary range:  £18,420 to £20,319 pa inc.

DOCTORAL STUDENTSHIP (Three-Year Award)
The award is available to work with Dr. D. Mareschal and Professor Mark H
Johnson on a project exploring the interference effects in infant object
recognition using behavioural and possibly ERP methods to test infants.
Applicants should have a good first degree in experimental psychology. An
interest in connectionist modelling and the neurosciences would be
desirable.

The award is available from 1st October 2000.
