Ph.D. Studentship (From September 2000)

Image processing with hybrid supervised and unsupervised neural networks.

Ph.D. studentship available in the Applied Computational Intelligence Research Unit (ACIRU) at the University of Paisley, Scotland.

An opportunity exists for a university sponsored Ph.D. studentship to research and develop novel hybrid supervised/unsupervised artificial neural networks for application to visual data. A particular emphasis in this Ph.D. will be on data related to remote sensing, but there will be opportunity to develop generic models that may be adapted and applied to other image processing tasks. Research will attempt to uncover methods that improve classification and feature detection with the developed hybrid models on visual data

Applicants should normally hold a good degree in a related subject area and specific work experience and/or publications with regard to neural networks and image processing will strengthen application. Programming experience with MATLAB and/or C++ will be an advantage. The successful candidate will be supervised jointly by Dr Darryl Charles and Dr Bogdan Gabrys and will play an active part in a vibrant research group. A 3 year grant is available at the normal rate and some part-time teaching should be available to suppliment income. Applicants should send a CV and the names and addresses of two referees by e-mail or standard mail to the following address.
