SIXTH NEURAL COMPUTATION AND PSYCHOLOGY
WORKSHOP (NCPW6)

Connectionist models of evolution, learning and development
University of Liege, Liege, Belgium
Saturday, September 16 to Monday, September 18, 2000
URL: http://www.fapse.ulg.ac.be/ncpw6/

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

This workshop, the sixth in a series, has the explicit goal
of bringing together connectionists modelers, and especially
connectionist modelers from Europe, who are primarily
focused on some aspect of psychology or neuropsychology.

Each year there is a relatively wide-ranging theme for the
Workshop. For example, “Neurodynamics and Psychology”
was the theme of the first workshop, “Perception”, the third,
“Connectionist representations” the fourth, and so on. This
year the theme will be “Development, learning and evolution.”
This is a broad topic and intentionally so. Although we
aren’t interested in, say, connectionist applications to
submarine warfare, we will consider all papers that have
something to do with the announced topic, even if rather
tangentially.

The organization of the final program will depend on the
submissions received.

As in previous years, the Workshop will be reasonably small.
There are, for example, no parallel sessions and no poster
sessions. And plenty of time will be left for discussion among
participants. The atmosphere is designed to be congenial
but rigorous.

Even though participation in the Workshop is by no means
limited to Europeans, one of its explicit goals is to bring
together European connectionist modelers interested in
psychology or neuropsychology. This is the first year that
NCPW is being held on the Continent, a move that was
explicitly designed to attract not only the usual contingent
of British connectionists, but also our colleagues from
other European countries as well.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The Workshop will last from Saturday, September 16 through
the morning of Monday, September 18, 2000. There will be
approximately 25-30 paper presentations. Abstracts
(approximately 200 words) are due by June 7. Notification
of acceptance for a paper presentation will be done by
June 22. The finished paper must be ready by the time
of the Workshop. See the NCPW6 Web page for all details:

REGISTRATION, ETC.

The registration fee will be 100 euros. (Reductions will be
made upon request for a limited number of students,
especially students from abroad who also have significant
travel expenses.) Included in this fee will be the welcome
reception (evening of September 15), coffee breaks, lunches,
and a copy of Workshop Proceedings afterthe Workshop
(we have a tentative publishing agreement with
Springer-Verlag, as in the past). Special conference rates
