THREE FACULTY POSITIONS AVAILABLE

The Faculty of Engineering at the Fukui University, a National
University of Japan, seeks candidates for three professor and/or
associate professor positions in the newly established Department of
Human and Artificial Intelligent Systems (HARTs). The department is
aimed to study and teach fundamentals and applications of systems with
intelligence. It is consisted of three academic units, the Basic
Intelligent Systems, the Applied Intelligent Systems, and the
Intelligent Systems for Human Aid, and is planed to have a total of
twenty-two faculty members by the fiscal year of 2002.  Candidates
with a variety of backgrounds related to the human and artificial
intelligence as well as systems science and engineering are encouraged
to apply. The area of research includes; Intelligent Robotics,
Intelligent Sensing, Cognitive Science, Emergent Systems, Automatic
Control, Artificial Intelligence, AI Systems, Adaptive Learning and
Autonomous Systems, Evolutionary Systems, Multi-agent Systems, and
others. Applicants are expected to establish an independent, and
highly original, research program. They are to teach graduate and
undergraduate courses, in which students are mostly Japanese, and to
supervise student research at the levels of Undergraduate, Master and
Doctor degrees.

Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, copies of publications,
summaries of twelve representative publications, a statement of
present and future research plans and teaching interest, and two names
