POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWS (TWO POSITIONS)
CONNECTIONIST-BASED INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Applications are invited for two positions of Postdoctoral Research
Fellow within the Department of Information Science, University of 
Otago. Initially this is a two year fixed term appointment with the 
possibility of renewal.

The successful applicants should have a PhD degree in Information
Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Mathematics.
Knowledge on contemporary methods and techniques for information
processing and intelligent information systems (neural networks, fuzzy
logic, evolutionary systems), excellent programming skills (Java, C++,
Delphi), experience working with operating systems for PC and SUN
platforms in a distributed network environment, is desirable. 

In collaboration with other universities in New Zealand and abroad,
the department is working on a research project "Connectionist-Based
Intelligent Information Systems" funded by the New Zealand Foundation
for Research, Science and Technology (FRST). This project involves
programming and using AI systems (neural networks, rule-based systems,
fuzzy systems, evolutionary computation, rule extraction algorithms)
for single platform or in a distributed platform-independent
environment on the WWW. It also aims at applying developed
methodologies and tools for adaptive speech recognition, language
translation, image processing, adaptive control and data mining in
bioinformatics. 

Commencing salary will be within the ranges available for each
