The Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition, a joint program of the
University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University, offers an
annual summer program for a small number of qualified undergraduates
interested in studying cognitive or computational neuroscience. The
program offers undergraduates ten weeks of intensive involvement in
laboratory research supervised by one of the program's faculty. The
program also includes weekly journal club meetings and a series of
lectures and laboratory tours designed to give students a broad
exposure to cognitive and computational neuroscience topics.
Students' individual research experiences are planned in consultation
with the training program's Director. Potential laboratory
environments include single unit recording, neuroanatomy, brain
imaging, computer simulation of biological or cognitive phenomena,
robotics, and neuropsychological or behavioral assessment of clinical
subjects.

Students selecteed to participate in the program will receive a $2500
stipend, plus housing and a modest travel allowance. Support is
provided by the National Science Foundation and the Center for the
Neural Basis of Cognition.

The application deadline this year is February 15, 1998. The program
begins in early June and lasts for 10 weeks.
