OPENING FOR RA IN STUDIES OF ADULT BRAIN PLASTICITY

An immediate opening exists for a research assistant who will be
involved in a project to study strategies that promote learning and
brain plasticity, and their basis and use in enhancing literacy, under
the supervision of Professors Julie Fiez, University of Pittsburgh and
Jay McClelland, Carnegie Mellon.

The studies test a new model that attempts to account for the apparent
stability of language processing deficits in the face of massive
exposure to natural speech, while at the same time explaining why
interventions using exaggerated speech appear to be effective in
remediation. The assistant will have the opportunity to contribute to
behavioral experiments and functional neuroimaging studies. Specific
responsibilities will include subject recruitment, subject testing,
data analysis, participation in the development of stimulus materials
and experimental designs, library research, and general administrative
support.

This position is a full-time paid research position, and funding is
available for up to three years. This is not intended as a vehicle
for graduate student support, but the opening may provide a unique
opportunity for recent college graduates interested in becoming
involved in cognitive neuroscience research, including those who may
wish to pursue graduate study in the future. The holder of this
position will have access to the facilities and resources of the
Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition, a joint project of the
Carnegie-Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh.

Interested applicants should send a short statement of qualifications
