Neural Computing Research Group, Aston University, Birmingham, UK
We would like to invite applications for a TMR postgraduate grant (eligibility
criteria mean that only non-UK EU nationals can apply), for study in the
following areas
Neural Nets for Control: Advancing the Theory (ITN)
Statistical mechanics of error-correcting codes (DS)
Average performance of support vector machines (DS)
Image Understanding with Probabilistic Models (CKIW)
Non-linear Signal Processing by Neural Networks (DL)
Synergetics for computational networks (DL)
The student would be assisted with their application to the EU for funding for
a three year project leading to a postgraduate qualification. Should the EU
application be unsuccessful there may be a possibility of awarding a
Divisional Studentship. Applicants should have been (or expect to be) awarded
an undergraduate degree in a numerate discipline.
Please could you email (text only) a *brief* CV to include your name, address,
email, nationality, qualifications (including marks) and any publications
you may have, together with the (equivalent of one side of A4) description
of how you would approach research in one of the above topics (not forgetting
the topic title!) to ncrg at aston.ac.uk by 9.00am on Thursday 27th November 1997.
The closing date for TMR applications is 15th December 1997 so deadlines are
tight. Further details of the Research Group and some of the above projects
can be found at http://www.ncrg.aston.ac.uk/ Further details of the TMR
programme can be found at http://www.cordis.lu/tmr/home.html
