		POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

Applications are invited for a one-year postdoctoral research position
in the area of "Robot Learning". The candidate will carry out applied
research on the use of reinforcement learning and other neural network
paradigms for
(1) the acquisition of efficient reactive navigation strategies,
(2) map building, and
(3) the integration of both---i.e., topological reasoning and
    reactive control.
The algorithms will be implemented on physical mobile robots equipped
with range sensors (sonar, infrared and/or laser range finder) and
devoted to surveillance and safeguards applications.

The ideal candidate should have experience with neural networks
and mobile robots, good programming skills in C/C++, ability to
communicate research results, and be willing to build on previous work.

The position is available immediately. It is funded by the European
Commission in the framework of the SMART-II Network. Thus, only
citizens of the European Union or associated countries are eligible.
The gross salary is about 2400 ECU/month.
There is travel funding in case of papers accepted at important
conferences.
