MetaXen is a start-up biopharmaceutical company based in the San 
Francisco Bay Area.  We emphasize an integrated parallel approach to drug 
discovery that seeks to optimize specific binding of small molecules to 
proteins simultaneously with pharmacological parameters such as oral 
absorption.  We combine state-of-the art computational technology for 
structure-based drug design with medicinal chemistry, molecular biology, 
X-ray crystallography, biochemistry, molecular pharmacology, and related 
fields in a stimulating multidisciplinary environment.  Our current 
therapeutic research areas include cancer and thrombotic disease.

We are looking for a computer scientist to join our growing group.  The 
ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in applying sophisticated 
computation to real-world problems (e.g. drug discovery, object 
recognition, robotics, etc...).  Experience in machine-learning/neural 
networks, computational geometry, or physical modeling would be 
considered beneficial, as would formal training in chemistry, biology, or 
physics.

The duties for the position are to develop, implement, and apply novel 
algorithms for structure-based drug design (e.g. molecular docking, 3D 
structure-activity prediction, etc...), genomic data analysis, and 
prediciton of in vivo pharmacological parameters from in vitro 
pharmacology data as well as molecular structure.
