********NEUROMORPHIC CONTROL SYSTEMS********
A postdoctoral position is available at the Department of Physiology
of Northwestern University Medical School to work on an interdisciplinary
project aimed at developing a control system for an artificial limb. This
system will be based on the rat's hindlimb geometry and the controller will
emulate some of the known physiology of the muscles and of the spinal cord.
The research will involve both theoretical and experimental components and will
be carried out in collaboration with Sandro Mussa-Ivaldi
and Simon Alford at the Department of Physiology and with Ed Colgate at the
Department of Mechanical Engineering.
The position is available immediately and will last a minimum period of one
year, with the possibility to be extended for another year.
The applicants should have a PhD in a relevant discipline and a solid
experience in control system engineering and computational sciences.
This work will also involve some amount of cellular neurophysiology.
While a strong background on experimental neurophysiology is not a requisite,
the candidate should be willing to become acquainted with these techniques
and to carry out experimental work.
Northwestern University offers competitive salary and benefits.
Applicants should send a CV, a statement of their interests and professional
goals (not longer than 1 page) and the names, addresses and telephone numbers
of at least two reference to Vera Reeves either via
email (v-reeves at nwu.edu) or via surface mail at the following
