IEE ANN 97 - CALL FOR PAPERS

Fifth International Conference on
"Artificial Neural Networks"
Churchill College, University of Cambridge, UK: 7-9 July 1997

Objectives:
This is the fifth in a series of successful conferences bringing
together up-to-date research in the field of artificial neural networks.
This includes theoretical advances in statistical aspects of learning,
dynamical systems theory and function approximation in the context of
artificial neural networks as well as practical applications that have
benefited from the use of this technology. Topics in these areas are:

Architectures and Learning Algorithms:
     Computational Learning Theory
     Learning Algorithms
     Function Approximation
     Approaches to Model Selection
     Density Estimation
     Model validation and verification
     Comparisons with classical techniques.

Applications:
     Vision and Robotics,
     Speech and Language Processing,
Monitoring Complex systems such as Engines
     Medical diagnostics
     Financial Systems Modelling

Advances in Implementation:
     Parallel Hardware,
     Software Systems

Contributions:
Papers reporting original research related to the above areas are invited.
A selection will be made based on originality of the contribution and
clarity of presentation. In addition to oral presentations, a selection
of papers submitted will be presented as posters. Poster presentations will
be seen as offering better interaction with participants. Please indicate
in the reply slip if you would prefer to present your submission as a
poster. It is expected that papers presented in this form will be linked
to particular sessions and the Chairmen of the Session will give a brief
introduction to the posters.

Prospective authors are required to make their submissions in the form of
complete draft papers of a maximum of up to six pages by the deadline (see
below). A clear summary and full details for corresponding with the
authors (including email) should be provided. Authors of accepted papers
will be required to to provide a camera ready version of their full
paper of up to six pages. A LaTeX style file and/or instructions on the
layout will be made available nearer the time.

Tutorial on "An Introduction to Neural Computing Applications and
Techniques"

On the morning of Monday, 7 July 1997, there will be a half-day
tutorial session prior to the formal opening of the Conference.
Tutorials will cover basic concepts in neural computing and their
applications.

Deadlines:

Intending authors should note the following dates:

Closing date for the submission of full papers Friday, 6 December 1996
Notification of acceptance February 1997
Deadline for any revised papers Friday, 14 March 1997

Venue:

The Conference will be held at Churchill College, Cambridge. Cambridge is
a city in the English countryside that is world renowned for its University.
There are now some thirty colleges, the earliest, Peterhouse, having been
founded by the Bishop of Ely in 1284; and their rich architectural heritage
is there to be enjoyed.

Today Cambridge combines its academic heritage with the atmosphere of a
modern business and tourist centre. There are varied aspects of the city
to be enjoyed from historic colleges ato the bustling market square,
browsing along the busy shopping streets, punting on the river cam,
visiting the University museums or taking in the delights of the surrounding
landscape.

Committee:

Dr M Niranjan, University of Cambridge (Chairman),
Dr J Austin, University of York
Dr S Collins, Defense Research Agency
Dr P H Cowley, Rolls Royce Applied Science Laboratories

PAPER FORMAT

Authors wishing to contribute to the Conference should send an original
and four copies of each paper by 20 December 1996 to the ANN97 Secretariat.

Papers should be submitted on A4 sheets with a 2-column format.
Each column is 6.69 cm in width with a spacing of 1.27 cm between columns.
Text should be typed in 10 point Times-Roman font with single line spacing.
The first page should incorporate (first line) the title, (double line
space) author(s), (double line space), and affiliations. Only six pages
are allowed per paper (inclusive of figures, tables etc.). Please contact
the ANN97 Secretariat should you require a sample of the required layout.

If presented in good quality, suitable for camera-ready copying, successful
contributions will be published from the original copy submitted in the
first instance. Otherwise, authors will be requested to re-submit.

All contributions will be published as part of the IEE Conference Proceeding
series and will be available to all delegates at the event.
