POSTDOCTORAL POSITION (Biosystems Analysis and Control)
School of Chemical Engineering, Purdue University

This position is part of an ONR and NSF-funded project to study
the baroreflex for possible applications to process control systems.
In addition, the project involves strong collaborations with the DuPont
company, and extended interactions with the DuPont group are an intended
part of this project. The project involves experimental and computational
studies aimed at understanding local modulation of cardiac behavior for
applications to locally intelligent control systems design.
Specific sub-projects include: (i) second messenger modeling of the mechanisms
responsible for modulation in a ganglion cell; (ii) computational modeling
of the local and central reflex interactions; (iii) abstraction of control
principles from the reflex model for chemical process control applications;
and (iv) [possibly] experimental studies to validate the local model.
The ideal applicant will be able to contribute to the cellular modeling
from both a computational and (possibly) an experimental perspective.
Familiarity with control systems engineering is also desirable.

The position is available immediately and will last a minimum period of one
year, with the possibility to be extended for another year.
The applicants should have a PhD in a relevant discipline and a solid
experience in biochemical engineering and control systems.
This work will also involve some amount of cellular neurophysiology.
While a strong background on experimental neurophysiology is not a requisite,
the candidate should be willing to become acquainted with these techniques.

Purdue University offers competitive salary and benefits.
Applicants should send a CV, a statement of their professional interests
(not longer than 1 page) and the names, addresses and telephone numbers
of at least two reference to Frank Doyle either via
