******   POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP ON MOTOR LEARNING ******

A postdoctoral position is available at the Sensory Motor Performance Program
of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) to work on learning and
adaptation of multi-joint arm movements.  RIC is a Northwestern University
affiliated rehabilitation hospital, with close ties to Northwestern
University schools of medicine and engineering. The research is to be
be carried out with Sandro Mussa-Ivaldi, Ph.D. and involves both
experimental and theoretical components. The experimental work
will be based on the interaction of human subjects with a
two-joint robot manipulandum that has been recently been built
in Mussa-Ivaldi's lab. The manipulandum is controlled by a PC programmed in
C++. The theoretical work will involve the representation of
the arm's adaptive controller as a combination of non-linear basis
functions.

The position which is available immediately is for one year but it
is expected to be extended at least for a second year.
It requires a professional level of knowledge which is acquired with
a PhD in Engineering of Physics with emphasis in Biomedical research
and with some substantial background in Classical Mechanics and Control theory.
Technical proficiency in C++, PC platforms (DOS, Windows 95) real-time
programming and Unix (X) is highly desirable.
