VISION/CONNECTIONIST VISION MODELING

NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Institute for Scientific Computing Research, a University of California
Institute located at LLNL, is pursuing research in active computer vision
and related biologically motivated computational models. We are currently
seeking excellent candidates for a postdoctoral position that will include
research in image processing, neural networks and computer vision. The
successful candidate will aid in the development of computer vision
software and hardware for collaborations both inside and outside LLNL.
There will be opportunities for interaction and collaboration with
interdisciplinary scientists in the academic community and with private
industry. ISCR staff are expected to perform research resulting in
publications in leading computational and related journals and to
participate fully in the Institute, including its seminar series and
research activities.
LOCATION: LLNL is located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Coastal and
mountain recreational areas are abundant nearby. The ISCR has
collaborations with nearby universities, including UC Berkeley, Stanford,
and UC Davis.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to:
- Identify complex problems and solve them in a creative and
timely manner
- Carry out independent research related to the computer vision
efforts at the ISCR
- Communicate clearly in both oral and written form.
Candidates must possess a recent Ph.D. in Physics, Mathematics, Computer
Science, or Engineering with a research background in Signal Processing,
Image Processing and Neural Networks.=20 Candidates must have excellent
programming skills; with demonstrated experience in C and C++, familiarity
with different compilers, standardization efforts, object-oriented design
and creation of program packages.
Experience in the following areas is a plus:
- Real-time systems
- Datacube programming
- COSE, CORBA
- Parallel program design
- Efficient Modeling of Biological Vision Systems
- Hardware design (small PCB design, wrapping, etc.)
- Robotics
- Algorithms for nonlinear signal processing (fractal
compression, higher-order correlations, etc.)
- Databases.
LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT: 1 year (with possible renewal for 3 years total)
SALARY: In the range $46,000-54,000 per annum depending on experience and
qualifications.
