Research Engineer
Optical Character Recognition
The appointee will join a team working on a project funded by the
Australian Research Council and aiming at the development of
artificial neural network techniques for low resolution character
segmentation and recognition. Applicants with a bachelor or higher degree
in electrical engineering or computer science with experience in pattern
recognition, preferably in the area of neural computing based OCR
are invited. The appointment will be for an initial period of one year and
renewable for up to three years, subject to satisfactory progress and
funding.
If applicable, the appointee can enrol for a higher degree in an area of
the project.
Salary: (Level A academic) 30k-40k depending on experience.
Duty statement
The research engineer will:
- perfrom litterature search
- design and simulate neural computing architectures for OCR
- design and implement software for OCR and interfacing to document
scanning equipment
- develop and integrate OCR software
- work independently
REPORTING:
Reports to Dr. M. Jabri
QUALIFICATIONS:
B.E. or B. Computer Science or higher.
SKILLS:
- design, simulation and tuning of artificial neural networks
- C and/or C++ programming
- knowledge of Unix
- design, implementation and testing of neural computing software
- communication with others
- writing reports and technical papers.
- work independently

Electronics Research Engineer
Adiabatic Computing for Implantable Devices
The appointee will be part of a team working on a project in collaboration
with a world leading company in the area of implantable devices. The
project is funded by the Australian Research Council and aims at
investigating circuits and architectures for adiabatic computing in the
context of implantable devices. Applicants with a bachelor or higher
degree in electronics or computer engineering with experience in
full-custom integrated circuits (preferrably analogue) are invited. The
appointment will be for an initial period of one year and renewable for up
to three years, subject to satisfactory progress and funding.
If applicable, the appointee can enrol for a higher degree in an area of
the project.
Salary: (Level A academic) 30k-40k depending on experience.
Duty statement
The engineer will:

- design testing system interface to test circuits
- design and implement software for simulating the circuits
- work independently
REPORTING:
Reports to Dr. M. Jabri
QUALIFICATIONS:
B.E. or higher.
SKILLS:
- programming in C and/or C++
- knowledge of Unix
- design, implementation and testing of electronic and microelectronic circuits
- design and implementation of software programs to simulate logic and
analogue circuits.
- use of computer aided design tools.
- communication with others
- writing reports and technical papers.
- work independently
