I recently moved to Brandeis University, near Boston, where there is a
lovely new building housing a new center for complex systems, which
focuses on the brain, the mind, and computation. The center houses
biologists, biochemists, physicists, psychologists, linguists, and
computer scientists.

There is a faculty search which is relevant to the list:

-------

The Volen National Center for Complex Systems at Brandeis University seeks
candidates for a tenure-track assistant professorship to participate in
establishing a Center for Theoretical Neuroscience funded by a grant from
the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. We are especially interested in theorists
with strong interests and demonstrated commitment to research relevant to
neuroscience. Candidates are expected to have Ph.D.s (or the equivalent) in
Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or another quantitative discipline.
The successful candidate will be appointed in the appropriate academic
department/s. The position carries a reduced teaching load and summer
salary for three years. Prospective candidates should send a curriculum
vitae, statement of research interests, and arrange for three letters of
recommendation to be sent directly to: Search Committee,
Theoretical/Computational Neuroscientist, Volen Center, Brandeis University,
Waltham, MA 02254. Applications from minority and women are especially
welcome. Consideration of completed applications will start after January 1,
1995, and will continue until the position is filled, although candidates
are strongly encouraged to submit completed applications as soon as
possible.

----

The likeliest candidates for the faculty position will have a body of
work in neuroscience modeling, rather than in neural models of
cognition or engineering. However, there are also several postdocs
available on the same Sloan grant, for theorists or modelers
who want to cross into experimental neuroscience. Contact Eve
Marder at binah.cc.brandeis.edu, Larry Abbott at psy.ox.ac.uk or John
Lisman at binah.cc.brandeis.edu for further info.

PS Neuroprose is staying at OSU for a while, just with delays in moving files.
