Virtual Festschrift for Jellybean

Dear Connectionists,

On a sad day this spring, my longtime collaborator, friend, and
inspiration for the field of Dognitive Science, Jellybean, died
at the ripe old age of 16. His age (for a golden retriever/samoyed
cross) at his death is a testament to modern veterinary medicine.
Alas, we still must all go sometime.

The purpose of this message is to invite the humorists among us to
contribute a piece to a collection I am editing of humor in
Jellybean's memory. As you may know, a "festschrift" is a volume of
articles presented as a tribute or memorial to an academic. I have no
plans to publish this except "virtually", through the auspices of the
neuroprose archive. I already have several contributions that were
privately solicited.

This is a public solicitation for humor for this purpose. Your piece
does not have to be in the "Dognitive Science" vein, but may be
anything having to do with neural nets, Cognitive Science, or nearby
fields. I reserve editorial right to accept, edit, and/or reject any
material submitted that I deem either inappropriate, too long (I am
expecting pieces to be on the order of 1-8 pages), or simply, not
funny. Any editing will be with the agreement of the author. Latex
files are probably best.

Remember, brevity is the mother of wit.

The deadline for submission will be Nov. 1, 1993. Email submissions only to
gary at cs.ucsd.edu.

Thanks for your attention.
