NEO-cognitron

Of the early second generation algorithms, the Neocognitron is one that I
heard very little of lately. I have two questions:
- Can anyone point me to anywork that uses the algorithm, but it is not
its original designer?
- Has anyone implemented the algorithm in C or some other easily available
language?

The algorithm claims to use microfeatures for classification, and I would
like to compare it with other algorithms such as the SONN and the GDR.
