a friend of mine wants to set up a serious/fairly big speech+neural nets
project $ (say 100-200 K)
he asked me about equipment to buy. anyone wants to put in their two
cents? i could see a big bucks proposal based around sun workstations and
a smaller one based around, say, 386 or 486 Dos machines. i seem to recall
the SUN sparc station has a bunch of built-in DSP functions. i assume
a waveform editor (software) mike, earphones and amplifier, some kind of
A/D - D/A converter and maybe some central file server with a lot of
hard disk space to store a speech database.
i would not bother all of you with such a marginal message, but the
person in question has to meet a deadline for a proposal and he was
quite pressed for time. we do not want him to miss the chance to spend
all this good money , do we ?
if anyone has some names and/or ballpark estimates for
prices for the above items, and maybe some other stuff i forgot, please mail
me ....
thanasis
