Could you please share the following announcement with graduate students and postdoctoral fellows you know who may be interested (or already involved) in mentoring undergraduate researchers? Are you a grad student or post-doc interested in learning how to effectively mentor undergrad researchers? Would you like to develop your own mentoring identity and skill set? ? The Mentoring Undergraduate Researchers (MUR) Institute from OURSD and the Eberly Center for Teaching Excellence and Educational Innovation will prepare graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in any field to mentor undergraduate students in research and design a project for implementation in the spring semester or the 2026 Summer Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship ! Participants will leave with a toolkit of strategies to answer the following questions: - What is inclusive and effective mentoring? - How is mentoring similar to and different from teaching? - How do you negotiate your own identity while mentoring? - How can you help undergraduate researchers develop habits of mind and skills? - How do you determine appropriate research goals and scope projects for individual students? The institute will be held on January 8-9, 2026 from 9am-12pm both days at TQ 1308. Coffee will be provided both mornings and registration is required. We look forward to seeing you there! If you have any questions, please contact Paige Zalman at pzalman at andrew.cmu.edu Thanks for your help in spreading the word about this institute!
