This is a great opportunity to showcase your research work to alumni and collaborators. If you are interested, here is what is required: 0) Note your interest and tentative title here (3rd sheet has spotlight speakers). 1) 5min talk in-person on *September 8th* in UC Rangos. 2) 5min Q/A (tentatively if there's enough time) 3) Use the Auton slide template 4) (Optional) Recording of the talk sent to the Program Task Force for upload to the Auton Lab Youtube channel by *September 1st*. (set up a zoom call and record yourself with the camera on while talking through your slides.) 5) Upload your presentation slides to the shared drive by *September 6th*. Please reach out to Nick and me if you have any questions. Thank you! Best, Jessie -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... A couple corrections: The best option is to do both 5 min spotlight and poster, there will be no time for Q&A durong spotlights, so it would make sense to use your spotlight to prompt interest of the audience to go and visit your poster. We will skip the recording of your talk. We will potenrially record spotlights as a zoom session. We expect all PhD students working with either Jeff. Barnabas or Artur, to present their spotlights and posters. We encourage all others, particularly younger researchers, to contribute spotlights and posters as well, and we will accomodate these on a first come first served basis. Message-ID: Team, If you have not RSVP'd yet please do so asap. We need to have good estimates of headcounts to proceed with ordering food and other resources. We have an excellent roster of speakers and panelists and many of you prepare spotlight talks and posters for the 30th Anniversary Symposium on Friday. Please feel free to forward the below boilerplate email invitation to whomever you believe should be aware of the events. Cheers, Artur ---- As you might already be aware, in 2023 the Carnegie Mellon University Auton Lab celebrates 30 years of building AI with real world impact. In celebration, we are planning a weekend of events from September 8th to 10th. We would like to invite you to join us in Pittsburgh for the celebration! Friday features a symposium with a series of short talks to highlight the amazing past and future work at the Lab, panel sessions to review the present and the future of our domain, as well as spotlight talks and posters delivered primarily by current junior members of our research team. Saturday promises plenty of time to catch up with family and friends over a picnic. Finally, on Sunday we will kick off the next 30 years with a walk through Schenley Park and a send-off brunch. We will continue the following weekend with a hackAuton, starting on Friday, September 15th, which will involve several teams of CMU students coming up with clever solutions to AI/ML challenges. Additional information and an RSVP button can be found at https://autonlab.org/30th-Anniversary/ (note that details of the schedule are still being finalized). There will also be options for remote participation if joining in person is not feasible. Please RSVP in any case at your earliest convenience. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you soon! Our own Professor Karen Chen and her team at the University of Maryland Baltimore County has just won an important prize in a tough DARPA AI Tools competition. Her Caselet system is designed to develop and reinforce hands-on skills of aspiring and seasoned Data Scientists. Karen, I, and few other Autonians did initial developmen of it here at the Auton Lab, and she took it to the next levels of utility after moving to UMBC. It is a good example of using AI to teach AI. Way to go Karen! I have made repeated appeals to try to support Jack (cc'ed) on the ground this weekend. We are at risk of needing to close up shop early tomorrow evening after dinner - we have no one available to help at the evening session and I don't want to expect Jack to be there himself. Out of all the Autonians we sent direct emails to, we only have 3 mentors for the coding sessions: - Mononito - Chi-En - Yeeho In your meetings today, please encourage Autonians to be present in-person to help out at the hackAuton.
