bash.autonlab.org was shutdown due to the power outrage. It is up and

This is second or third report that passwordless login is not working on
RHEL 7.1 (ari/foxconn) even though it works as expected on RHEL 6.7 and

I looked more carefully into this in the past hour and it seems to me
that RHEL is shipped with a buggy sshd_config file. I did little diff
of the sshd_config file from ARI and my home desktop machine which runs
the latest and greatest version of OpenSSH/OpenBSD. I also did diff of 
sshd_config files from RHEL 6.7 and RHEL 7.1 and those two differ
significantly as RHEL 6.7 is shipped with the 7 year old version of
OpenSSH while RHEL is shipped with a year old version of OpenSSH. 

I could not find any obvious reasons. The culprit could be PAM module
which is mandatory on RHEL but doesn't even exist on OpenBSD. 

I am sorry for this. The problem on the surface looks similar to this

Fixed!!! Now it works as expected. The culprit was default SELinux
policy on RHEL 7.1

setsebool -P use_nfs_home_dirs on

did the magic.

Dear Autonians,

Several of you have e-mailed me so I will give you here quick heads up
instead of replaying individually.

Our OpenVPN server (just the application not the physical machine) has
shut down after the uptime of 400 days. That in turn resulted in
non-availability of bash.autonlab.org.

Also all desktops were affected as NFS mounts became unavailable and
internal DNS server unreachable (that caused your browsers to work
slowly). 

Just to asure you that I have things under control I even have a hot
spare OpenVPN gateway which could be put in production within 20 minutes
(I would have to restart your OpenVPN clients). I could also configure
your OpenVPN clients to use two OpenVPN servers but that is just
complicating things for no real reason. 

Now Athena was reported down. It has never been down. However all
virtual machines have shutdown. I have no explanation why that has
happen. They are now backup and running but Jarod will have to check few
of those. 

lop1.autonlab.org is non-responsive due to your local DNS issues. That
has nothing to do with my machines. You have to check with your DNS
provider. I have repeatedly loged from my home without any delays.

This is of concern only to the memebers of Neill's group. 

Same of you have experienced serious delay trying to log into neill
computing nodes. Likely culprit are stale NFS file handles. The easiest
and sometimes the only fix is to reboot the file server (current uptime
270 days). Please take a note that Neill-zfs will be rebooted at 3:00 PM
EST.
