I am pleased to announce the availability of a new compute node, LOW1.
48 Opteron K10.5 cores @ 2.3 GHz.
512 GB (yes, GB) of RAM
After the SCS machine room power upgrade completion (currently rumored
to be occurring over the December holiday break,) the machine will be
installed into our rack. For the time being, this node is situated
outside of the machine room, and connected over VPN connection to the
rest of the cluster.
You will notice network I/O being a bit slower as a result of the VPN
and slower 100 Mbps network connection. For now, you can mitigate this
by copying your files and doing your I/O to the /scratch directory on
LOW1, and copying the results back into your /auton directory.
The new node brings our compute cluster to a new milestone! Auton Lab
compute resources now include 200+ CPU cores for the first time (212, to
be exact) and total RAM of 1 TB, including project machines. This
number does not include CPU and memory from desktops or infrastructure
servers.
Enjoy LOW1 !
