Hi Lab,

Some of the new things we wanted to do with the new /auton namespace are
coming to fruition. The ultimate goal is to have a more intuitive and
useful storage space.

We now have a shared software base located in /auton/bin and
/auton/software. This software repository is run directly from the
network resource, allowing us to always be using the most up to date
software versions. Not all shared software is online just yet. More is
being added all the time. When it is added, all machines will
immediately have access to it - desktops and compute nodes alike.

/auton/bin has subdirectories noarch, x86, and x86_64 with links to the
binaries to any shared software like Matlab for whichever arch you are
running on. /auton/software is a superset of the stuff in /auton/bin.
It includes other programs and libraries which are used by various
people. If you believe something is missing and should be widely
available, please let me know so I can add it.

The correct paths have been just been added to system-wide
configurations on your desktops and on the compute machines. You will
need to log out and log back in to the machine in order for the change
to take effect. There is no immediate need to logout except to gain
access to the shared software.

Mike

P.S. If you find that the paths are not working for you, you should
check your dot files like .bash_profile, .profile, or .bashrc for any
overrides to the PATH variable, and let me know if you can't resolve any
problems you encounter.
