This will take them from 1.6 Ghz to 2.2 GHz. I will need to take down all LOP and LOQ machines one by one for only a few minutes each, to allow me to install the processor upgrades. I prefer to do this all at once, on Thursday morning. Please let me know if you have any long running jobs that cannot be interrupted. Otherwise, I will proceed with the upgrade on Thursday morning. After the upgrade, you will see close to a 50% improvement in computing speed. Mike From mjbaysek at cs.cmu.edu Wed Sep 9 10:44:41 2009 From: mjbaysek at cs.cmu.edu (Michael J. This should be the last of the scheduled downtime for the upgrades. At the moment, there is almost no activity. Just know that if you start something today and it's still running in the morning, it will be killed. Mike Michael J. Please: 1) Do any cleanup you can on your home, public, or data directories 2) Move stuff to /mnt/userdirs partition if you can 3) Make a list of old stuff I can move elsewhere, or archive offline And please do this ASAP, as BigPapa has reached 95% full between yesterday and 2 AM this morning. There is file system corruption on the boot drive which is causing a number of problems. The corruption is local to only the BOOT filesystem. There is no reason for me to believe there is any corrupt data on BigPapa or userdirs. Regardless, I must bring down the server to address the issue. Any of your compute jobs that depend on BigPapa will resume on their own after the server becomes available. I will be doing this very shortly, and will keep you informed as I go.
