Hello everyone,
I have changed the kernel of lop5 to version 2.6.1-mm4 for general speed
and stability testing. If you have a chance, please run your code on
lop5 and compare it to previous results you might have (or to results on
one of the other lops).
If we encounter any stability problems with 2.6.1-mm4, we will revert to
2.4 immediately. If 2.6.1-mm4 works well for everyone, we will
eventually revert to 2.4 to restore AFS functionality (see note below),
but will use the performance data to help with future decisions. lop5
will return to kernel 2.4 before Monday, if not sooner.
Please note that AFS is not yet available for kernel 2.6.1-mm4 (for any
platform). It is possible that AFS will never be available for kernels
beyond 2.4, given the current lack of enthusiasm for fixing openafs on
the openafs mailing list. If this is the case, we will be stuck with
2.4 forever on all machines that require afs.
