Hello,

Some of the desktop machines that mount NFS from the lab (loco, lime,
loom, logo) are currently unable to access it.  I have corrected like
and lark, but I don't have permission to change the rest.  Sometimes
this is because I am not able to login as root or komarek.root.  For
lime and logo, I can confirm that those machines have a very sick
automount daemon that can (probably) only be fixed by a reboot.

FWIW, like and lark also have sick automount daemons, but I was able to
kill them (unlike lime and logo).  On those machines I mounted NFS
without automount and it worked fine.

I do not have control over people's desktops.  Many of them are
facilitized, which provides extra challenges for my understanding of how
they work.  I will do what I can to help, but I may not be able to do
much.  If you control lime, logo, loom or loco, you may want to reboot
and see if things work.  If they do not work, and you would like me to

logo, lime, lark and like have bigpapa access.  As far as I know, loco
does not.  Rebooting doesn't seem to help, it appears the automounter's
illness survives.  If the owners/users of loco would like to have access
to BigPapa, send an email to admin and we'll get it set up for you.

Hey all,
I now have a way to make automounts work, and am deploying it on desktops.
if I missed yours, let me know and after I'm done, BigPapa will be
automounted/unmounted again.

Hi everyone,

With Andrew's prior permission, I have reserved lop3.  That leaves lop4
and lop5.  Please let me know if this causes pain.  I'm running
experiments for my thesis, and right now the experiments are the
bottleneck.

In about 10 days we should have two new lops (that includes some testing
time).  We should also have two new super-lops with 8GB of ram.  We'll
need a new name for those since superlop1 doesn't fit within the Auton
naming scheme.

New tool in smallbutuseful - altercvs

It makes it (relatively) easy to alter a sandbox (e.g. your h directory)
from AFS-mode to ssh-tunnelling mode, and vice versa, so you
don't need to have 2 sandboxes for the purpose. It's documented too.

Temperatures in the lab are soaring, and we now suspect that the lab has
caught fire.  Jacob has gone to school to obtain visual confirmation of
flames.

The AC in the lab has been a bit wacky ever since that AC coil broke on
the same night as the NSH power outage, sometime around the ICML
deadline.  Hopefully this latest temperature bounce will be corrected
soon.

I have shutdown several cycle servers which were idle (and one of mine
which I could afford to lose).  These include loki, lop2, and the four
new machines we were "burning in".  Jacob will shutdown a few more which
cannot (currently) be powered off remotely.  This includes lina and
lira.  We hope to control the lab temp adequately without shutting down
the web or file servers, lop1, lop4 or lop5.

If you are on campus and have a box fan (or other sizeable fan) handy,

While the machines did nearly win the battle today, I was able to 
extinguish the problem.  The scare was a combination of uncertain and 
unreliable temperature readings in combination with truely high 
temperatures.  I believe both are now under control at this point. 
Ignore the extremes on the http://www.autonlab.org/status temperature 
graphs.
