Title: Incrementally Built Heterogeneous Model
Abstract: Incrementally Built Heterogeneous Model (IBHM) is a
novel approach to regression. It sequentially adds nonlinear
terms to the model based on the analysis of correlation between
the term considered for addition and the current model residuals.
The algorithm is iterative and it typically produces useful results
after a relatively small number of iterations. It does not access
the actual inputs directly. Instead it maps the input matrix onto
vectors and then selects the best smoothers for these vectors.
IBHM follows Vapnik's paradigm of estimating only the relevant
parameters directly, so that the model parameters can be estimated
separately by applying a modified measure of correlation, leading
to substantial reductions of complexity.
