Within the next month we plan to have the LOP, LOQ, LOR, and LOS compute machines upgraded to CentOS 4.2 x86_64. This provides the same levels of performance and memory addressing as the old Gentoo setup did, and adds enhanced maintainability. Or current Gentoo profile is set to expire early in February, so now is the time to get everything upgraded. We are already running CentOS 4 x86_64 on Lop2 and Loq3. If you want to familiarize yourself, you can use these machines. If anyone has reason to believe that we need to keep the legacy Gentoo setup installed anywhere, or if you have any other concerns or questions about the upgrade, please feel free to IM/ EMail/ or Call. -Mike -- Michael J. We're in for a quick start of another busy year at the Auton Lab. If things go as they do now, we will be entering an unprecedented number of new projects in 2006. They seem to be coming in bunches, and it should be directly attributed to our hard work and a remarkable success rate maintained throughout the past 12+ years of the Lab history. Let us keep up the momentum and have lots of fun while doing so. May all Autonians have a prosperous and happy 2006! Tomorrow, we will see John Ostlund taking the floor to talk about his experiences with the data about cargo shipments and how it could be used to improve screening of imports against bad stuff nobody wants on the US soil. Keep this in mind if your programs misbehave. 2) CCache is enabled systemwide by default. This will speed recompilation of your programs. To learn more about CCache, and how to use it to your advantage, visit http://www.autonlab.org/auton_intranet/docs/ccache.html 3) During the upgrade process, a few ssh keys were lost. You will receive a message stating that "REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION CHANGE" when you connect to LOQ1, LOR1, LOS1, or LINA. Simply open up your ~/.ssh/known_hosts file and remove all lines containing those machines, and this will allow you to connect. If you have any questions or feedback, please let me know! -Mike -- Michael J. Microsoft Research, Redmond, has several openings this summer for internships in computer vision. We are looking for students with interest and research experience in object recognition, feature extraction, 3D modeling, optical flow, computational photography or large image databases. For details on other researchers and projects, please see the MSR website (http://www.research.microsoft.com/vision/InteractiveVisualMediaGroup/). Located on Microsoft's campus in Redmond, near Seattle, Washington, Microsoft Research is dedicated to basic and applied research in computer science. We strive to make our internships fun (group activities), productive (good research with publications), and profitable (subsidized housing and transportation). If interested, please e-mail a cover letter to Larry Zitnick (larryz at microsoft.com) containing your research interests. The subject of all messages concerning your application should be "Vision Intern: ", e.g., "Vision Intern: David Marr". In addition, please provide a CV along with two letters of recommendation to Microsoft's online internship application site: https://research.microsoft.com/aboutmsr/jobs/internships/apply/ Offers of internships will be made on a "rolling admissions" basis, so it is to your advantage to apply early. The hard deadline is February 28, 2006; we expect to have all responses out by end of March. Note, this announcement only addresses candidates applying to computer vision internships at MSR's Redmond campus, summer 2006. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
