Next Tuesday (03/18) Alexander Goldberg (CMU) will be giving a talk titled:
"Balancing Transparency and Reviewer Anonymity in Scientific Peer Review".

*Abstract*: Scientific peer review plays a crucial role in maintaining the
credibility of scholarly work. Concerns about its integrity and quality
have motivated increasing transparency into the peer review process. In
this talk, I will examine mechanisms for sharing more data about peer
review while preserving reviewer anonymity. Our analysis of peer review
highlights more general privacy-utility trade-offs that arise in sharing
time series and graph-structured data.

*Bio:* Alex is a 4th year PhD student in Computer Science at Carnegie
Mellon University. His research focuses on methods to improve decision
making from distributed human evaluations, with a particular focus on
scientific peer review. In particular, his work leverages AI and
statistical tools to enhance the quality and fairness of review processes
and develops methods for privacy-preserving data sharing, which can enable
more transparency into review processes while preserving participant
anonymity. He is the recipient of an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship.
