2022 International Conference on Social Computing, Behavioral-Cultural
Modeling, & Prediction and Behavior Representation in Modeling and
Simulation

20-23 Sep 2022

Conference will be held Virtually

The goal of this conference is to build this new community of social
cyber scholars by bringing together and fostering interaction between
members of the scientific, corporate, government and military
communities interested in understanding, forecasting, and impacting
human socio-cultural behavior. It is the charge to this community to
build this new science, its theories, methods, and its scientific
culture in a way that does not give priority to either social science or
CS, and to embrace change as the cornerstone of the
community. Despite decades of work in this area, this scientific field
is still in its infancy. To meet this charge and move this science to
the next level, this community must meet the following three challenges:
  1) deep understanding of socio-cognitive reasoning,

2) human-technology integration,

3) and re-usable computational methods.

Topics include but are not limited to the following:
     • Social Cybersecurity
     • Social Network Modeling
     • Human Behavior Modeling
     • Agent-Based Models
     • Models of Human-Autonomy Interaction
     • Health and Epidemiological Models
     • Validation Methods and Human Experimentation

All papers are qualified for the Best Paper Award. Papers with student
first authors will be considered for the Best Student Paper Award.

We bring you some important updates regarding the AGI-22 event.

Due to recent geopolitical developments, we have had to modify our
previous plan to center the F2F portion of the June AGI-22 event in St.
Petersburg, Russia. While we support global peaceful research
collaboration independently of political and military issues, the
current situation with Russia renders it infeasible to proceed with our
previous plan of a hybrid St. Petersburg / virtual event.

Insteadwe are excited to announce that the physical portion of the
hybrid F2F/virtual AGI-22 event will now be inSeattle, Washington
(USA). In order to give participants time to adjust their plans to
account for the new location, the date will also be delayed until 19-22 Aug.

We have adjusted all submission deadlines to align with the new
conference dates.

All papers should be submitted via EasyChairat this link

As was the case last year, some keynotes will be F2Fand some will be
virtual. Authors with accepted contributed papers will have the option
to present their papers in Seattle, or virtually. Based upon feedback
from our initial hybrid conference last year, we will allot equal time
for all contributed papers, whether presented virtually or in-person.

The current situation as regards Russia and Ukraine is profoundly
disturbing and regrettable and we at the AGI Society stand with the
people of Ukraine, and will do our best to foster and support AGI-22
participation from Ukrainian AGI researchers and developers insofar as
circumstances allow. We believe that it is very important to keep
fundamental science moving forward in a globally connected way, even
through difficult and trying times. We look forward to hosting an AGI
conference in St. Petersburg in the further future when the geopolitical
situation has been resolved in a more positive way.

My colleagues at the AGI Society and I are hard at work aligning an
amazing program of keynotes, workshops and tutorials that will
complement the contributed talks to make this year’s AGI conference yet
another incredible event. Expect more updates on the particulars of
AGI-22 conference content soon.

7th International Workshop on Social Sensing (SocialSens2022) at ICWSM-2022
Special Edition on Belief Dynamics

The social sensing workshop (started in 2015) is a multidisciplinary
meeting place that brings together social scientists, computer
scientists, cognitive scientists, and other disciplines interested in
social media analysis, around research that interprets social media as
measurement instruments.

The 7th installation of the workshop focuses on an important piece of
the above puzzle: the modeling of belief dynamics and their relation to
information operations. Historically, the intent of the social sensing
workshop has been to combine scientists from computing, social, and
cognitive domains around social media related topics. With belief
dynamics as the topic in 2022, we invite papers and vision abstracts
that approach it from different perspectives, from physical signal
processing to social science and from control to cognitive modeling. The
hope is that such a multidisciplinary intellectual exchange generates
insights that draw on the best of multiple worlds: analysis of physical
signals, information signals, and social and cognitive systems.

The 7th international workshop on social sensing solicits contributions
from academia, industry, and government on recent advances in both
theoretical and experimental research in the above areas. We invite
technical papers and position abstracts describing novel ideas, exciting
results, and/or real‐world experiences. Two types of submissions are
solicited:

1. Full papers: Maximum length of 6 pages. At least one author of each
accepted paper must register for the workshop and present the paper.
Accepted papers will be broken into thematic sessions and presented in a
panel discussion format.
2. Vision abstracts: This is a 2‐page extended abstract that offers a
future vision for a research direction in the field of social sensing.
At least one author of each accepted abstract must register for the

emphasis on discussions in working groups, with the goal of making
scientific progress during the meetings. The meetings will be open to all,
with the provision that each potential participant must provide a one-page

working groups and demonstrate a minimal level of commitment to the
workshop.

Our initial topic will be Emotion (detailed description attached), possibly

Abstract: Interactions with emerging interactive devices (smartwatches,
mixed reality headsets, etc.) rely on minimalist graphical user
interfaces (GUIs) whose controls are not always permanently displayed,
or even never displayed for some of them. Consequently, these devices
suffer from a problem of discoverability of interactions available to
the user. How is one supposed to know that they can interact with a
component of the interface that is hidden by default, or by using a
gesture that is not indicated by the system? This PhdThesis will focus
on this problem of discoverabilityof ''hidden''interactions. More
precisely, the aim is to understand how people discover hidden
interactions in interactive systems, and to model the discovery of these
interactions in order to provide design and evaluation support.

Human-Guided Machine Learning for Futuristic Human-Machine Teaming.
On this three-year project, we aim to create interactive machine
learning techniques that enable more effective teaming between
humans and machines. To achieve this goal, our team will develop a
set of asymmetric cooperative multiplayer games that can serve as a
testbed for humans and AI agents to partner up to solve problems. On
this effort, the Drexel researchers will lead the development of AI
agents that can interacthumans in these games. In particular, the
project will focus on developing teachable AI agents that can learn
on the fly from natural interactions with their human partnerswhile
participating in cooperative problem solving. The project aims to
develop agents that can interactively learn from multiple, mixed
modalities, such as learning from a combination of demonstrations,
    feedback, and natural language instruction.

Co-evolution of Human-AI Adaptation. On this three-year project
(whichis closely aligned to the previous project), our team will
develop AI agents that leverage a technique called /interactive task
    learning/
(see:https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fweb.eecs.umich.edu%2F~soar%2Fsitemaker%2Fdocs%2Fpubs%2FLaird_et_al_InteractiveTaskLearning_IEEE_IntelligentSystems_2017.pdf&data=04%7C01%7Ciccm-l%40lists.psu.edu%7C4fd4d524b38b4fe4d47f08da10d33f53%7C7cf48d453ddb4389a9c1c115526eb52e%7C0%7C0%7C637840796738958768%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=8%2B5DVuLJZ6U5qOvCn5dLvl2bEZV7Cy%2FZeNAnhp8fWu0%3D&reserved=0.
This approach lets humans interactively teach an agent to perform
novel tasks through natural language instruction. To evaluate our
agents, human participants will team up with them to accomplish
tasks in a virtual reality game environment—leveraging the AI agents
as personal assistants to support problem solving and interactively
teaching them new knowledge as needed.

Across both projects, the postdoctoral researcher will support the
development of AI agents that can learn interactively with/from human
teammates across multiple asymmetric cooperative games. The project will
be highly collaborative, with faculty and students from 6 different
academic institutions collaborating to accomplish the project’s goals
(Drexel U, Carnegie Mellon U, U of Colorado
Boulder, U of Wisconsin-Madison, U of California—San
Diego, and California State U—Long Beach).

Essential Functions

Support development of AI agents that can learn interactively
with/from human teammates in the context of multiple asymmetric
    cooperative games.
Discover new approaches that enable AI agents to more naturally and
efficiently interact with and learn from human teammates.
Prepare and submit manuscripts to appropriate conferences/journals
    in the field.
Help manage and advise graduate and undergraduate students
Interact professionally with all members of the research team.

Required Qualifications

A PhD (or anticipated PhD) in CS, information science,
human-computer interaction, or other related area.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidateshould have a strong background in AI, particularly in areas
such as cognitive systems,
cognitive architectures, knowledge-based AI, and interactive task
    learning.

Additional Information
