But, this is breaking news - Frank MathPsych/ICCM 2020 not to be held physically, details to follow Dear Colleagues, As President of the Society for Mathematical Psychology (SMP), I am writing on behalf of the Executive Committee of SMP and the leadership of the International Conference on Cognitive Modelling (ICCM) to update you on the COVID-19 pandemic impact on the 53rd Annual Meeting of the SMP, and the 18th Annual Meeting of the ICCM. It is now clear that it will not be possible for us to hold our annual conference [physically] in Toronto this year.?To be clear we have not taken this unprecedented decision lightly. However, for the health and safety of our membership, and given the newly instituted closure of public events in Toronto through June 2020, and the cancellation of the Cognitive Science Conference we strongly believe this to be the right decision. Although we are disappointed about not being able to host a physical meeting this year, we are excited about the possibilities of hosting the conference through alternative venues, such as a virtual meeting.?We will announce further details in the coming weeks.?At this time our submission portal remains open. We remain fully committed to making sure the?award winners for 2020 will still receive their much-deserved recognition. Fifth Groningen Spring School on Cognitive Modeling (Canceled this year) ??? http://www.cognitive-modeling.com/springschool/ [This year's school is canceled, but one is planned for next year.] We would like to remind you of the 5th annual Groningen Spring School on Cognitive Modeling. As last year, the Spring School will offer courses on the ACT-R, Nengo, and PRIMs paradigms, as well as a course on error-driven learning. These courses consist of daily lectures, as well as hands-on tutorials that will give you practical experience with the topic. As a special feature for our 5th anniversary this year, we are offering a lecture series on dynamical systems. This lecture series should be interesting for anyone looking into modeling cognitive dynamics. It can be combined with each of the 4 courses mentioned above, but we especially recommend it in combination with Nengo for everyone interested in neuromorphic computing. The first day of the Spring School will provide an introduction to all five topics. From day two, spring school students will be asked to commit to one topic, for which they will attend lectures as well as hands-on tutorials. In addition, students can sign up for a second topic, for which they will attend lectures only. All students are invited to join a series of plenary research talks on the different paradigms. *The early registration deadline ends on feb15, so make sure to sign up before then.* Please feel free to forward the information to anyone who might be interested in the Spring School. (https://soartech.com/) are pleased to announce that the 40th Soar Workshop will be held from Monday, 1jun20 through Friday, 5jun20 at the Bob and Betty Beyster Building at the U of Michigan in Ann Arbor. For those of you not familiar with the Soar Workshop, each year, members of the Soar community--faculty, scientists, graduate students, technical staff, and developers--gather together for several days of intensive interaction and exchange on Soar.? The Soar community is widely distributed geographically, so these workshops provide an opportunity to have face-to-face conversations, learn about the status of other participants' research, and get previews of what will happen in the future. We will try to give as many members of the community as possible the opportunity to describe their research or discuss the Soar issues that are of concern to them.? This means the time available per talk is short (typically either 5 or 20 minutes). Since workshop attendees are already entrenched in the Soar world, brief talks that concentrate on only the essentials work very well. The workshop format is presentations only -- no formal papers. There is no charge to attend the workshop.? You may sign up to give talks of various lengths as soon as you're registered. Please upload a copy of your presentation(s) by 5june20. We are still figuring out the details of how this will work, but the general structure will be that we will still classify the accepted submissions as either ?talks? or ?posters? and we will still publish an online proceedings as usual. For the actual ICCM program, we will ask presenters to pre-record a video presenting their work and we will then have scheduled online times for discussion of the work. We will also have some online social events. Furthermore, given the extra stress and uncertainty that has entered all of our lives these last few months, and given the fact that people will not need to organize travel to the ICCM event, we have also decided to extend the deadline for the ICCM submissions by three weeks. So, the new submission deadline is May 8th, 2020. Even with this extended deadline, we also recognize that many of you have work that is worthy of presentation at ICCM that requires more than a 2-page submission, but due to the realities of the current situation it is not feasible to develop a full 6-page submission. If you are in this situation, please note that we will be treating the 6-page limit on full submissions as a maximum, but not as a minimum. Shorter submissions (down to 3 pages) will also be reviewed and considered for talks and awards. We are very much looking forward to seeing your research, and we are very curious how this sort of online conference will work. Please stay safe, and we will see you this summer!
